“Don’t let your country down, and don’t let yourself down.”
These words were spoken by President Barack Obama on September 8,2009, at noon to a gym full of young adults in Arlington, Virginia. Students listened carefully to the leader of our nation as he inspired us to think more about and take control of our future. Our President was speaking about us, as students, and our roles in our own education. About how we can succeed and one day contribute to our country as many have done before us. About how nothing like troubles, words, or people should keep us from living and fulfilling our dreams.
He inspired many; I am one. This man thought of a way to help us to become what we hope to be one day. You can’t expect life to give you anything, nor can you even expect life to help you. It’s all about goals, support, focus, and never for a second quitting.
We will always remember the minute our hearts skipped a beat as we sat attentively listening to the man who gave us hope for a bright, educated future. We WILL keep going for the sake of our community, our country, and our world; but most of all, ourselves. As others watch us they will see heads held high and hope in our eyes. They will see that we never give up on anyone, including ourselves. They will see helpers, workers, believers, and people who never question devotion towards our dreams. Obama gave us hope, now let’s all fulfill it, one student, one person, and one mind at a time.
