Along with our students, we head into the 21st century, into a future of unprecedented opportunity and challenges. Knowledge and technologies are rapidly evolving, and consequent possibilities are also evolving. What is not changing nearly so much is the fundamental nature of humanity, and our need to create and express, to understand and manage our world, our love of beauty and truth, and our desire for meaningful relationships in community. Our future's highest hopes, then, are held in preparing this generation to become fully matured human beings, fully humane, fully equipped and empowered to engage in the problem-solving and creative engineering the future requires.

We do not know precisely where we are going; no one can. What is indubitably clear, however, is our direction--forward--and that we must prepare our kids to move toward the future proactively disposed to embrace and successfully shape it.
